St. Martha’s Mwitoti Senior School from Mumias East Constituency stunned perennial volleyball giants Lugulu Girls in a breathtaking performance to win the 2026 Western Region Secondary Schools Volleyball Championship and qualify for the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) National Games in Thika.

Defying expectations, the Kakamega County champions outclassed the experienced Bungoma side in straight sets, winning 25-23, 25-20 and 25-23 in a fiercely contested final that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
From the opening whistle, Mwitoti displayed confidence, discipline and attacking brilliance, matching Lugulu point for point before edging the first set 25-23. The girls raised their intensity in the second set, controlling play to register a convincing 25-20 victory.

With their opponents desperate to stage a comeback, Mwitoti remained composed in the third set, producing crucial blocks and powerful spikes to seal a 25-23 win and complete a memorable 3-0 triumph.
The victory signals a changing of the guard in Western Region school volleyball, with Mwitoti Girls ending Lugulu’s dominance to lift their maiden regional title.
The final whistle triggered emotional celebrations as players, coaches and supporters erupted in jubilation, recognizing the achievement as one of the greatest sporting milestones for the school and Mumias East Constituency.

The champions now turn their attention to the KSSSA National Championships in Thika, where they will carry the hopes of Western Region and seek to prove that their regional triumph was no fluke.
