Vihiga County’s political landscape shifted dramatically with the entry of Alfred Kahi Indimuli, OGW, into the 2027 gubernatorial race.
The highly respected former National Chairman of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) and immediate former Chief Principal of Machakos High School has emerged as a dominant figure following his retirement after 38 years of distinguished service in education.
Indimuli formally launched his bid during a homecoming ceremony in Mbale, addressing residents shortly after retiring.

His declaration immediately reshapes the contest to succeed Governor Wilber Ottichilo, who completes his second term in 2027 amid perceptions of unmet service delivery expectations.
“Vihiga needs a new foundation,” Indimuli stated, outlining his core platform: strengthening Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), revitalising youth programmes to foster innovation and self-reliance, and overhauling the health sector by equipping Level 4 facilities to ensure quality service.
Political analysts swiftly acknowledged his formidable presence. “Indimuli is the best thing to happen to Vihiga’s 2027 succession politics,” asserted one pundit. “His clear declaration settles the gubernatorial question, allowing focus elsewhere.”
His deep roots and track record resonate strongly, particularly among youth. “90 per cent of Vihiga’s current youth passed through Mr. Indimuli’s schools,” claimed supporter Kezegure. “We know his capability. We won’t gamble this time; we’ll vote for him unreservedly.”

Another youth, highlighted Indimuli’s crucial intervention as Patron of Vihiga United FC after county sponsorship lapsed: “He stepped in. We can’t afford to let him down now.”
Indimuli’s legacy stems from transformative leadership at major institutions like Vihiga School and Chavakali High, where he elevated academic profiles and empowered local youth.
This extensive network across Vihiga’s five sub-counties (Sabatia, Vihiga, Luanda, Emuhaya, Hamisi) and its Maragoli, Banyore, and Tiriki communities provides a significant base.
His entry has already caused ripples. Current Senator Godfrey Osotsi, previously seen as a frontrunner, now faces a disrupted political landscape.

Alex Kidake reportedly withdrew from the race upon Indimuli’s entry, opting to seek election in Likuyani Constituency, Kakamega County instead.
Indimuli now joins a field including Senator Osotsi, Beatrice Adagala, Emily Ominde, and Omboko Milemba.
With his formidable reputation, deep community ties, and clear policy focus, Alfred Kahi Indimuli has positioned himself as the candidate to beat in Vihiga’s 2027 gubernatorial contest.
