Matungu MP Peter Oscar Nabulindo has officially handed over the construction site to the National Housing Corporation for the development of student hostels at the Kenya Medical Training College Matungu Campus.
The corporation is expected to put up 360 housing units within one year. The hostels are a key requirement before the college admits its first group of students in September next year.
The tuition block is already complete, and the MP is constructing an administration block through the CDF, which is currently underway.

Speaking during the handover, Nabulindo encouraged residents to invest in their neighbourhoods by putting up rental units and other structures that will support the growing demand expected once the campus becomes operational.
“Lecturers and students will need places to stay. Let us take advantage of this opportunity and grow with it,” he said. He added that the college will benefit the entire Matungu community, not just residents of Khalaba, noting that the institution is expected to uplift the local economy.
The MP also said he had spoken with Governor Fernandes Barasa about upgrading Khalaba Health Centre to a Level 4 hospital. The facility is expected to serve as the main practical training site for KMTC students once the campus opens.

Nabulindo reminded residents that he was elected to serve the people and urged leaders to put politics aside until the next election cycle in 2027.
Officials from the National Housing Corporation, led by County Director for Housing Bonface Amwayi, outlined the features of the upcoming project. The 360-unit development will include:
a) Guard house
b) Power house
c) Borehole with a 70,000-litre capacity
d) Waste treatment plant
e) Mechanical and electrical workshop
f) Mini-mart
g) Shops
h) Indoor games area
i) Clothes hanging area
The contractor was instructed to prioritise local labour, with at least 70 per cent of the workforce expected to come from the youth and women in the area.
The project is set to run for exactly one year, with completion and handover expected around this time next year.
Nabulindo has continued to receive praise for his development agenda in Matungu and has also promised to launch modern markets in Matungu Centre and Musamba.
