Faridi Sacco Joins Ushirika Day 2025 Celebrations in Busia

Faridi Sacco Society Limited joined other cooperatives in celebrating Ushirika Day 2025 at Busia ATC Grounds, an event attended by key stakeholders in the cooperative movement.

The event was graced by Mr. Jeremiah Luttah, Vice Chairperson of Faridi Sacco, and Mr. Zebedee Lusimbo, Cooperatives Officer for Matayos Sub-County in Busia.

Addressing the delegates, Mr. Luttah thanked Mr. Lusimbo for organizing the event on behalf of the Ministry of Cooperatives, led by Hon. FCPA Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya.

He also appreciated the invitation extended to Faridi Sacco’s Chairman, whom he represented as Chief Guest.

Mr. Luttah commended the cooperatives for their strong turnout and emphasized their vital role in society. He urged both the national and county governments to extend cooperative services to grassroots levels to enhance public understanding.

Highlighting the digital era, he called for cooperatives to be introduced in school syllabuses to instill a savings culture early.

“To add value to ourselves and future generations, we must sensitize youth to join cooperatives and curb laziness,” he said.

He also appealed for increased government funding and leadership training for cooperatives.

“We will all retire someday—whether from formal employment or business. If we plan today, retirement will be easier. Let’s embrace savings, start small, and seek professional advice without fear of risks,” he challenged the audience.

Mr. Luttah urged leaders to prioritize economic—not political—advice to shape a better future.

Mr. Lusimbo encouraged the public to join and develop Saccos, citing their role in securing a better future. Busia County has 49,000 registered cooperative members—a figure below expectations.

“Kenya ranks first in Africa and seventh globally with 14 million registered cooperative members, yet Busia’s Saccos resemble mere groups compared to other regions,” he noted.

Faridi Sacco, established in 1977, ranks among Kenya’s top cooperatives with an asset base exceeding Ksh2.5 billion as of May 31, 2025.

It operates branches in Busia and Malaba, with service points in Ugunja and Port Victoria. Plans are underway to expand to Koyonzo, Bunyala, Changara, and Bungoma West, where it has a strong presence.
