Oparanya Leads Anti-govt Protests in Western

Western Leaders led by ODM deputy party leader H.E. Wycliffe Oparanya led peaceful protests across the region, against President William Ruto’s oppressive government.

Speaking in Mumias Bus Park, Oparanya lambasted the Kenya kwanza administration for giving Kenyans empty promises citing high cost of living, high cost of fuel among other factors that have affected people’s livelihoods.

“We are here as Azimio leaders to denounce the notion that protests are purely for Luos. Our people are finding life totally unbearable,” Oparanya said.

He added, “Bus fares have shot up by over 30%, the price of food commodities is beyond reach by many, yet they lied to us that they will lower the cost of living immediately they assume office.”

He noted that when you look at Ruto’s finance budget of 2023/2024 there is nothing for Mumias Sugar Company and the investor whom they brought onboard is being frustrated through courts.

“Today being a historical day in our country, famously called Saba Saba, we are launching a 10 million signature collection to enable us impeach Ruto. I humbly ask everyone of to append his or her signature so that we can fix this nation,” he said.

Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya asked the Azimio leaders not lose focus and strive in rallying the community together towards 2027.

PK termed President Ruto’s priorities as Wrong.

“How can the Head of State prioritise houses at the expense of food? Kenyans are starving but the President is only interested in houses. That is a sign of failed leadership and misplaced priorities,” PK said.

Other notable Luhya leaders who led the protests included: Mama Elsie Muhanda, Eugene Wamalwa, Ayub Savula, Godfrey Osotsi, Caleb Amisi, George Wajackoya, Nuru Okanga, among others.

They proceeded to Bungoma and later,  Kitale.
