The Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM) has broken its silence over the violence witnessed in Homa Bay, with its National Youth Leader Mr. Ibrahim Muchelule issuing a strong call for justice, restraint and protection of Kenya’s democratic space.

In a hard-hitting statement, Muchelule condemned the reported violence in the strongest terms, warning that intimidation, destruction of property and political confrontation have no place in a democratic society governed by the rule of law.
“Violence, intimidation and destruction of property only serve to undermine peace, social cohesion and the fundamental rights of citizens,” Muchelule said, urging all parties and members of the public to remain calm, exercise restraint and reject provocation.
The SUPKEM youth leader challenged government agencies to move swiftly to establish what transpired, identify those responsible and ensure that justice is served.

He specifically called on the National Police Service and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to investigate, prosecute and ensure that those found culpable face the full force of the law.
Muchelule insisted that investigations must be conducted impartially, transparently and on the basis of evidence, stressing that political, social or other affiliations should not shield anyone from accountability.
‘Protect Democratic Space’
Beyond the immediate violence, Muchelule raised concern over the wider implications of political confrontation, calling on the government to protect Kenya’s democratic space and respect opposition institutions.
He urged the government and political actors to embrace peaceful political competition, warning that the deployment of goons in political activities threatens not only individual safety but also public confidence in democratic institutions.

“The police should therefore act without fear or favour whenever individuals cross the line, and political connection should not shield perpetrators from the law,” he said.
His statement places renewed emphasis on the role of security agencies in maintaining order while protecting citizens’ constitutional freedoms during periods of heightened political activity.
A Message to Kenya’s Youth
Muchelule also directed a special appeal to young people, cautioning them against allowing themselves to be used as instruments of violence or political confrontation.
As Kenya heads towards another highly competitive electoral cycle, he urged the youth to reject political violence and instead become champions of peace, justice and democratic participation.
He equally called on political leaders to restrain their supporters from unnecessary violence, warning that the consequences of political clashes often extend far beyond the political arena.

SUPKEM, Muchelule said, remains committed to peace, justice, constitutionalism and peaceful coexistence among Kenyans.
His statement ended with a firm message that captures the urgency of his appeal:
“Peace must prevail. Justice must be done. Impunity must end.”
The statement comes amid growing public concern over political tensions and incidents of violence, placing renewed focus on the responsibility of political leaders, security agencies and citizens to safeguard Kenya’s democratic institutions and peaceful coexistence.
