The 2026 Kakamega County Secondary School Games have officially kicked off in Mumias West Sub-county, bringing together some of the county’s finest football talents in a highly anticipated competition.

The boys’ football tournament has attracted strong teams drawn into four competitive pools. Pool A features St. Peter’s Mumias, Manyuki, Namasoli and Tande, while Pool B comprises Namamba, Shamberere and Mukumu. Pool C consists of Matete, Mapera, Lubinu and Misingu whereas Pool D brings together Butere Boys, Sirigoi and Green Commandos.

Football enthusiasts have already singled out Pool D as the “pool of death” owing to the pedigree and competitiveness of the teams involved, setting the stage for thrilling encounters.
Matches are being hosted at various venues across Mumias West, including St. Peter’s High School, Muslim Boys Ground, Bomani Ground and the Mumias Sports Complex. The opening fixture saw hosts St. Peter’s Mumias face Manyuki in an early morning showdown at St. Peter’s High School.
In the girls’ category, competition is equally intense. Pool A features Mwira Girls, Musoli Girls and Butere Girls, while Pool B consists of Magale Secondary School, Bishop Njema and St. Martha’s Mwitoti. Pool C brings together Samitsi, Sisokhe, Mulwanda and St. Anthony Kikosi, while Pool D comprises St. Stephen Lwandani, St. Joseph’s Shibale and Lukhokho Secondary School.

Pool A in the girls’ competition has attracted significant attention, with traditional powerhouses Butere Girls and Mwira Girls expected to battle for supremacy in what many observers consider the toughest group.
The county championships will culminate on June 20, with winners and top performers earning the coveted opportunity to represent Kakamega County at the regional games scheduled to be held in Bungoma County.
