Senior Principal Tom Amadi has been appointed to lead the prestigious Oriwo Boys High School in Homa Bay County, succeeding Mr Henry Airo, who has been transferred to Sawagongo High School.
Mr Amadi is a renowned author of the bestselling mathematics series Conceptualised Learning and Teaching of Mathematics, widely credited with making the subject more accessible and popular among students in many schools.
He joins Oriwo Boys from Magunga Secondary School in Kisumu, where he served for just six months after moving from Nambale Boys High School in Busia County.

Praise for Transformative Leadership
Professor Bigambo Okumu of Moi University, who also chairs the Busia County Education Board, lauded Mr Amadi’s transformative leadership at Nambale Boys. Under his stewardship, the school streamlined operations and significantly improved academic outcomes.
“During Mr Amadi’s tenure, Nambale Boys produced two elusive A grades—the only ones in Busia County that year—alongside many other strong results. He is an effective administrator, and I am confident he will achieve wonders at Oriwo Boys,” said Prof. Okumu.
At Magunga Secondary, Madam Sylvia Akinyi, a teacher, described Mr Amadi as the best head of institution she has ever worked with.

“Mr Amadi joined us this year and immediately began addressing gaps in the school. He guided me like a father would a daughter, and we will dearly miss him. He is the best teacher of recent times,” she said.
Strategic Transfers Ahead of Curriculum Changes
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has effected several transfers of school heads across the country in preparation for the rollout of Grade 10 learners into senior secondary next year.
Oriwo Boys, one of the most sought-after schools in South Nyanza, has a long tradition of excellence in both academics and co-curricular activities. Stakeholders have welcomed Mr Amadi’s appointment, citing his passion and impressive credentials.
Community and Church Support
The Seventh-day Adventist Church, which has a special interest in the school, expressed satisfaction with the appointment. An SDA cleric noted that the commission had chosen a leader who matches the high standards set by outgoing principal Mr Airo.
“We humbly welcome Mr Amadi to Oriwo Boys and pledge our full support to ensure he continues steering the school in the right direction,” the cleric said.
A Legacy of Excellence
Mr Amadi leaves behind a strong legacy in Western Kenya schools, particularly at Kamusinde and Nambale Boys High School, despite challenges posed by local politics and vested interests. His appointment to Oriwo Boys is seen as a major boost for one of the premier institutions in the Nyanza region.
