After 23 years of dedicated service, leadership and commitment to academic excellence, St. Brigid’s Kiminini Girls High School is preparing to turn a significant page in its history as Chief Principal Inviolata Lukorito Makhanu retires, bringing to a close an extraordinary chapter in her education career.

Mrs. Makhanu, chief Principal St. Bridgid Kiminini Girls’

For more than two decades, Makhanu has been part of the school’s story, growing from a classroom teacher into a respected school administrator whose leadership journey reflects patience, professional growth and an enduring commitment to the education of young people.

Her departure marks more than the retirement of a school administrator. It is the conclusion of a 23-year journey defined by service, mentorship and the transformation of individual lives through education.

A trained Kiswahili and Christian Religious Education (CRE) teacher, Makhanu joined St. Brigid’s Kiminini Girls as a classroom teacher, serving for seven years before advancing to Deputy Principal, a position she held for four years.

Her leadership journey continued as she took over the reins as Principal, serving for 12 years before rising to the rank of Chief Principal.

It was a steady rise built on experience, dedication and a deep understanding of the demands of school leadership.

Her achievements earned her national recognition when she won the Principal of the Year Award (POYA), placing her among the education leaders celebrated for their contribution to the profession.

A LEADER WHO PUT PEOPLE FIRST

Beyond titles and professional accolades, Makhanu’s legacy is rooted in the relationships she built and the people she inspired along the way.

Colleagues remember her as a leader who loved her work, valued teamwork and treated members of staff with respect and dignity. Her approach to leadership helped reinforce the importance of recognising teachers not merely as employees, but as partners in the shared responsibility of shaping learners’ futures.

For the teachers she worked alongside, her journey offers a powerful reminder that effective leadership is not measured by position alone, but also by the ability to mentor others, earn respect and create an environment where people can give their best.

For learners who passed through the institution during her tenure, her years at the helm formed part of their educational journey, as the school continued with its responsibility of preparing girls for the opportunities and challenges that lie beyond the classroom.

A LEGACY THAT OUTLIVES THE OFFICE

As Makhanu prepares to step away from active service, St. Brigid’s Kiminini Girls bids farewell to a leader whose professional journey has been closely intertwined with the institution’s history.

From the classroom to the deputy principal’s office and eventually the principal’s seat, her career tells a story of perseverance, growth and commitment to a calling that extends far beyond earning a salary.

Retirement may close the chapter of formal service, but it does not erase the lessons shared, the colleagues mentored or the lives touched along the way.

Her 23 years at St. Brigid’s Kiminini Girls stand as a testament to the enduring value of dedicated educators who give their time and expertise to preparing the next generation.

As the school celebrates her remarkable journey, one message rings clear: a leader may leave office, but the impact of genuine leadership lives on in the people and institutions left behind.

Congratulations, Chief Principal Inviolata Lukorito Makhanu, on a distinguished career and a well-earned retirement. Your service has been your contribution, your mentorship your gift, and your legacy your lasting reward.
