The family of renowned Invest and Grow (IG) Sacco boss, Dr. Anjeyo Vuhya, is mourning the loss of their father and family patriarch, Mr. Rhodestic Musalia (RM) Vuhya Matekeya.
Mzee RM Matekeya, as he was widely known, passed away on April 30, 2026, after a short illness.
Burial arrangements are underway, with the beloved elder set to be laid to rest on Saturday, May 9, at his home in Muhudu, Tiriki East, Hamisi Sub-county.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Mugesa, and twelve children.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Dr. Anjeyo Vuhya described his father as a hardworking, strict, and intelligent man whose guidance shaped many decisions in his life.
“I would always consult him on everything before making a decision,” he said. “We have lost a pillar as a family, and it will be very difficult to fill the gap created by his demise.”
Mzee Matekeya was a highly respected elder within the Tiriki community, known for his deep knowledge of history and his warm, outgoing personality.
Community members have continued to pay tribute to his legacy, describing his as their Custodian of Culture and Wisdom.
“His impact will be greatly missed, especially among the Tiriki community,” said Tonny Isiji, a fellow elder. “As a community, we have lost a great man, but we will cherish his values and memories.”
As family, friends, and the wider community come to terms with his passing, Mzee Matekeya is remembered as a man whose life was defined by discipline, wisdom, and service to others.
He will be laid to rest this Saturday at his Muhudu home, bringing together mourners from across the region to celebrate a life well lived.
