Bernard Wesonga alias “Chief Bernard “has thrown his hat in murky politics with one intention of unseating the incumbent Butula Member of Parliament Hon. Joseph Oyula.
Oyula broke the one-term jinx in Butula by being re-elected in the 2022 General Elections, something that shocked many as it had never happened in the history of the Butula Constituency.
Bernard Ochieng’s alias “Chief Bernard” has already set the stage for 2027 and has vowed to do everything humanly possible to unseat Hon. Oyula.

Buoyed by super financial muscle and the support from women and the Gen Zs, Chief Bernard plans to ride on the support so far enjoyed from the youthful faction to propel him to Parliament.
“My slogan is “Reject Poverty” and I am going to empower youths from Butula to shun poverty through empowerment under your leadership,” said the Chief.
He added that politicians have always taken advantage of the youth, such that they use lies to hoodwink them and then disappear immediately after they are declared winners.
“I was born and raised in this locality and am well-versed in the dynamics of life in Butula. I want to do something extraordinary even before I assume office to prove to people that it can work,” he said.

Thousands of farmers have already been supported with fertiliser and seeds during this planting season across the six wards of Marachi East, Marachi Central, Marachi West, Marachi North Kingandole and Elugulu.
Chief Bernard has also promised to identify, nurture and support talents by providing sports gears and providing a conducive environment for sportsmen, not forgetting to improve the location of playgrounds for the better. Already, several teams have been supported with full sports gears (uniforms).
According to Andrew Okello from Murumba, Chief Bernard is good leader and he has demonstrated his leadership by proving that he has the interest of the people at heart.
“I am the beneficiary of his fertiliser and seeds, and I am happy that at least I will be able to have food after a given time,” he said.

He added, “Farm inputs have high cost implications, and when someone does something good for the people, we must appreciate him.”
He said they made the mistake of giving the incumbent a second chance, and are going to correct it in 2027.
“We cannot afford to have him waste our five years by doing nothing and still vote for him.”
Another resident, Mr Joseph from Ogalo in Marachi East, also applauded the Chief for his fertiliser and seeds.
“For real, his fertiliser saved me a lot, I nearly missed out, but I am glad that I have something on my farm courtesy of Chief Bernard,” he said.
Chief Bernard is said to be assembling his 2027 campaign team and has been seen meeting various Marachi factions sharing with them his vision for the Butula Constituency should he win 2027 political contest.
Over the weekend, he met members of EDWA-Eldoret branch, where he shared with them his visions for 2027.

As all this is happening, a lot has been said about his source of wealth with some saying that they don’t want to associate with him after word going around that he’s a freemason.
Moses Ongoma from Marachi Central avers that, Butula is gifted and it is a spiritual constituency and that there is no way they are going to vote for someone who uses powers of darkness to get wealth, lead them.
“Oyula has done so much for Butula, and he still deserves a third term,” he said.
When reached for comment, Chief Bernard confirmed to this writer that he is indeed a freemason and that people should just understand that there is freedom of worship in this country and stop judging him.
“We have Indians who worship the cow, Muslims and Christmas among others, and they are not judged harshly, unlike Freemasons. I am a freemason, and I can’t hide from it as I have been making it public via my daily social media posts on TikTok,” he said.
Among those salivating for the Butula Parliamentary seat in 2027 include:

- Kamasasa Ephraim.
- Jakobam
