Shinyalu Member of Parliament Hon. Fredrick Lusuli Ikana has reaffirmed his commitment to expanding access to higher education after presenting a cheque worth KSh 889,000 to support financially needy students at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST).

The cheque was presented on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, during a ceremony held at the university, where Hon. Ikana handed it over to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, in the presence of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Planning, Research and Innovation, Prof. Christopher Ngacho.

The bursary, drawn from the Shinyalu National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), is aimed at easing the financial burden facing university students from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to continue with their studies without interruption.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Ikana emphasized that education remains the greatest equalizer and pledged to continue investing in learners at all levels.

“No deserving student should be forced to abandon their university education because of financial challenges. As a leadership, we remain committed to supporting our young people to realize their academic dreams and become productive citizens who will contribute to the country’s development,” said the MP.

He noted that the NG-CDF education programme continues to transform lives by ensuring that bright but needy students access quality education from primary school to university.

Receiving the cheque, Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo commended Hon. Ikana for prioritizing education and standing with vulnerable students pursuing higher learning.

“This support will go a long way in enabling many students to remain in school and concentrate on their studies. We appreciate Hon. Ikana’s continued partnership with the university and his unwavering commitment to empowering the youth through education,” said Prof. Shibairo.
Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Christopher Ngacho also lauded the initiative, noting that financial support from leaders plays a critical role in improving student retention and academic success.

The latest bursary disbursement adds to a series of education-focused initiatives championed by Hon. Ikana, whose leadership has seen increased investment in school infrastructure, scholarships, and other programmes aimed at improving access to quality education across Shinyalu Constituency.

Students who will benefit from the bursary expressed gratitude, saying the funding will help them settle tuition fees and remain focused on their academic pursuits.

The gesture underscores the growing collaboration between elected leaders and institutions of higher learning in ensuring that no deserving student is left behind due to financial constraints.
