Butula University College of Technology (BUCoT) has moved a step closer to becoming a Constituent College of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) following a successful technical inspection by the Commission for University Education (CUE).

The inspection was led by Senior Assistant Commission Secretary Mr. Joseph Musyoki, who chaired a stakeholders’ meeting at the institution in Benga, Marachi North Ward. The exercise forms part of the ongoing assessment by CUE before granting approval for the college to operate as a constituent college of MMUST.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Musyoki commended the progress made at the institution, particularly the role played by the Butula Centre for Research and Development (BUCERED) and its trustees led by Wakili Namada Simon. He noted that BUCERED had formally handed over essential documents and key assets to Masinde Muliro University, paving the way for a smooth transition.

The vision of establishing an institution of higher learning in Marachi dates back many years and was spearheaded by Prof. Christine Mango, who brought together stakeholders under the BUCERED initiative. Through the initiative, land and other critical assets that now host BUCoT were acquired before being transferred to MMUST.
Present during the inspection were MMUST Vice Chancellor Prof. Solomon Shibairo, Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Golicha, members of the BUCoT Board of Management, the Board of Trustees, and other senior university officials.

Prof. Shibairo welcomed the progress made, describing the transition as a significant milestone in expanding access to quality university education in the region.
The institution currently sits on 25 acres of land and boasts key infrastructure, including reliable water and electricity supply, a functional library, spacious lecture halls, and modern learning facilities.
The Commission is expected to communicate its findings to MMUST within the next two weeks. Stakeholders expressed optimism that the institution had met the necessary requirements for approval.

Butula Member of Parliament Hon. Joseph Oyula was praised for his unwavering support through the NG-CDF, which has significantly contributed to the college’s infrastructural development. If approved, Butula University College of Technology will officially begin operations as a constituent college of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, initially offering four academic programmes.
What began as a vision many years ago has now become a reality, marking a historic milestone for the people of Marachi and Butula Constituency.
