There was jubilation, celebration and excitement at St. Michael Ingusi Senior School in South Wanga, Mumias West Constituency, on Wednesday after Mumias West Member of Parliament Hon. Johnson Manya Naicca alias “Mbuyu,” officially handed over a brand-new 52-seater school bus to the institution in a colourful ceremony attended by education stakeholders, government administrators, Principal, parents, learners and local leaders.

The arrival of the modern bus marked yet another milestone in the school’s growth and reaffirmed the legislator’s commitment to improving education standards across Mumias West.
Receiving the Bus, Principal Mr. Julius Kweyu expressed profound gratitude to the MP, describing the donation as a game-changer that will greatly improve the school’s transport needs.

“This is a memorable day for the St. Michael Ingusi fraternity. The new bus will ease movement of our learners during academic trips, benchmarking visits, co-curricular activities and educational tours. We sincerely thank Hon. Naicca for always putting the interests of our school first,” said Mr. Kweyu.
The principal noted that since taking over the leadership of the school in 2023, he has witnessed remarkable support from the area MP.

“I joined this institution in 2023, and I can confidently say I am impressed by what Hon. Naicca has done for this school. His support has transformed our learning environment and inspired both teachers and students,” he added.
Mr. Kweyu highlighted several development projects undertaken through the MP’s support, including the construction of a 200-capacity boys’ dormitory, provision of 70 beds, purchase of two acres of land, construction of an ablution block, fencing of the school compound, installation of a modern school gate, and now the acquisition of the new school bus.

With a student population of approximately 700 learners, supported by 25 teachers and 13 non-teaching staff, St. Michael Ingusi continues to build on its rich tradition of academic excellence and remains one of the leading secondary schools in Mumias West.
Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Naicca congratulated the School Principal for prudent leadership and pledged to continue investing in education across the constituency.

“I love schools and I value education because it is the greatest investment we can make for our children. I will continue doing everything within my reach to ensure schools in Mumias West receive the support they need,” said the MP.
He praised Principal Kweyu for his exemplary leadership and promised even more development projects for the institution.
The legislator also lauded school heads and education officers for maintaining high academic standards, noting that Mumias West has consistently emerged as the best-performing sub-county in Kakamega County for the past seven consecutive years.

“Our excellent academic performance is because we allow education professionals to do their work without political interference. My role is to provide resources and create a conducive learning environment,” he said.
Hon. Naicca further announced plans to construct additional classrooms and procure more school buses for deserving institutions across the constituency based on their respective needs.
He also challenged parents to support schools by paying fees promptly, noting that delayed fee payments disrupt learning programmes and affect effective school management.
During the event, Mumias West Sub-County Director of Education Mrs. Spacia Akello commended the MP for his unwavering commitment to education and his respect for institutional leadership.

“Hon. Naicca has demonstrated exceptional support for education while allowing school administrators and education officers to perform their duties professionally. That is one of the reasons Mumias West continues to lead the county academically,” she said.
Mrs. Akello also appreciated the MP for renovating the Sub-County Education Office and appealed to him to assist in furnishing the facility to improve service delivery.
Representatives of the Mumias West Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) equally praised the MP for his continued support towards academic programmes, infrastructure development and the overall improvement of schools in the constituency.
Mumias West OCPD Mr. Richard Omanga urged the school management to ensure the new bus is properly maintained, describing it as an asset belonging not only to the school but also to the wider community.

He emphasized strict adherence to road safety regulations to prevent accidents and challenged learners to remain disciplined and focused on their studies. The police boss also issued a stern warning to individuals involved in selling drugs to students, assuring residents that law enforcement agencies would continue cracking down on drug peddlers targeting learning institutions.
Among the leaders who graced the occasion were Musanda MCA Mr. Joseph Musinde, Assistant County Commissioner Mr. Nicholas Bett, education officials, school principals, parents and members of the local community.

The handing over of the new 52-seater bus is expected to significantly enhance mobility for St. Michael Ingusi students, enabling them to participate more effectively in academic exchanges, educational tours, sports competitions and other co-curricular activities, while underscoring Hon. Naicca’s growing legacy of transforming education in Mumias West Constituency.
