Goibei Girls Reaffirms Academic Excellence with Impressive KCSE Results

Goibei Girls High School has once again stamped its authority as one of the leading academic institutions in the Western Region after posting an outstanding performance in the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

In what many education stakeholders have described as a major upset of long-established regional giants, the Hamisi-based school demonstrated consistency, discipline, and academic focus, qualities that have steadily elevated it to national recognition.

The strong performance further cements Goibei Girls’ growing reputation as a centre of academic excellence and a reliable pathway to university education.

According to the official KCSE results released on Friday by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Julius Ogamba, the school presented a large candidature and still managed to register remarkable outcomes.

A total of 533 candidates attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above, an achievement that places the school among the top performers in the region.

A closer analysis of the results shows that 12 candidates scored B+, 53 attained B (plain), 205 scored B-, while 263 obtained C+. In addition, 38 candidates scored C (plain), with only two candidates registering C-.

The school posted an overall mean score of 7.60, a notable improvement that reflects sustained academic planning and effective instructional delivery.

Speaking shortly after the release of the results, the school’s Chief Principal, Dr Rose Koech, PhD, attributed the success to a shared vision anchored on discipline, hard work, and academic excellence.

She lauded the 2025 candidate class for their resilience and commitment throughout the examination period.

“This performance did not come easily. We had a large candidate population, which presents its own challenges, but the students clearly understood the purpose of their visit. They remained focused and worked towards a common goal,” said Dr Koech.

The principal noted that the school’s deliberate exposure of learners to external examinations and regular academic benchmarking played a key role in preparing students for the national examinations.

She further credited the dedication of teachers, the support of parents, and the guidance of a proactive Board of Management for creating an environment that enables learning.

“Our teachers are committed and disciplined, our parents are supportive, and our Board of Management has consistently provided leadership and resources. This collective effort has enabled us to realise these results,” she said.

Dr Koech added that Goibei Girls has built a strong culture of academic preparedness over the years, expressing confidence that future candidates will continue to post impressive results.

“We have a history of strong performance, and judging by the level of preparation we maintain year in, year out, I am confident that our girls will continue to excel,” she added.

Parents and education stakeholders welcomed the results, terming them a reflection of sound leadership and a stable learning environment. Mr Eric Kiptanui, a parent whose daughter was among the top-performing students, praised the school administration for fostering academic growth.

“You cannot achieve quality results in a hostile environment. What we are witnessing at Goibei Girls is the product of good leadership. The school has grown tremendously under the current principal, and as parents, we are proud of this performance,” said Mr Kiptanui.

He added that the results have strengthened parents’ confidence in the school’s ability to nurture academic excellence and prepare students for higher education.

Over the years, Goibei Girls High School has experienced rapid growth in both enrolment and infrastructure, making it one of the most populated secondary schools in Vihiga County.

The institution has consistently increased the number of students transitioning to universities and other tertiary institutions, further underscoring its role in expanding access to higher education in the region.

With the latest KCSE results, Goibei Girls High School has once again demonstrated that strategic leadership, collective responsibility, and a strong academic culture can deliver excellence, even in a highly competitive education landscape.
