Butere Girls Soccer Team, also known as the Red Commandos, has been gifted with soccer balls by flamboyant Mumias-based businessman and director/founder of the Ngashira Care Foundation, Mr. Bonface Ngashira.
Butere Girls Soccer Team are three-time national champions in girls’ soccer, and they are set to represent the region in the National Championships, which will be hosted in Kakamega County starting next week.
Speaking to the girls at the school playground on Sunday, Mr. Ngashira congratulated them for their impressive performance and promised to support them wholeheartedly.

According to Mr. Ngashira, the girls displayed an electric performance that impressed him and other sports enthusiasts during the recently concluded Kenya Secondary School Sports Association Western Region Championships in Mumias. That is why he chose to visit and reward them with the balls.
“Talent pays. We’ve seen many young girls thrive through their talents, and it’s my humble appeal that you put effort into what you’re good at so it can define your future,” he said.
“As a stakeholder in Butere and the Western region, I will come back here before you leave for the national competition next week to motivate you in a very special way.”
Tom Ojenge, the school team manager, stated that they have made comprehensive plans to ensure the team shines in the upcoming nationals.

“Being the defending national champions is not easy, and a lot of pressure and expectations are on us. But we have been doing everything humanly possible to ensure we do not disappoint the school, supporters, and the region.”
“It’s not easy balancing between academics and sports, considering that our girls only train during the official games time, with the rest of their schedule dedicated to academics. We are, however, grateful that our dear Madam, the School Chief Principal, has been very supportive and always stands by the team.”
School coach Mr. Edwin Sakwa has promised one of the best performances at the upcoming national championship, which is expected to kick off next week in Kakamega, judging by the level of preparedness.
“We don’t have injuries, and some of our best players—who were rested during the regional games—will now feature in the national competition here in Kakamega. There’s no way Kakamega County can host the championship and a school from Kakamega fails to impress,” said the coach.

He also thanked Mr. Bonface Ngashira for his support and for visiting the school.
“We are grateful for your immense support, which will go a long way in enhancing our training effectiveness and boosting our morale.”
It is worth noting that Butere Girls has several players in the National Under-17 Team, and a number of them are hopeful of being officially enlisted in the squad.
The Ngashira Care Foundation supports several schools in the region and continues to change lives through its charity work.
The National Championships kick off next week, and Kakamega County will be represented by Musingu School (alias The Scorpions) and Butere Girls (alias The Red Commandos).
