St Charles Lunganyiro Secondary School in Matungu Sub-county has set itself on the path to success by putting in place structures to support students to perform better in their academics.
Mr Boniface Sirma, the school Principal revealed this during a successful Annual General Meeting (AGM) together with a Book Harvesting event held in the school.
He thanked the parents of the great school for turning up in large numbers to see to it that the event was a success.
“In the history of this school, this is the first time I have seen almost 100% turn up by the parents which shows that they trust in the management of the school,” he said.
Barely a year in the school as the head of the institution, Mr Sirma thanked the community for being supportive of the school programs and also thanked the students for being disciplined.
“We have close to zero indiscipline cases in the school and I am proud of that. We understand discipline plus hard work yields success and that is the mantra that drives us,” he said.
However, Mwalimu cited a few challenges affecting them as an institution ranging from shortage of teachers, shortage of laboratories, the need for more classes and room for expansion.
Owing to the challenges especially on room for expansion, the school has resorted to coming up with storeyed buildings to accommodate the school Library, Computer Lab, more classes and a section of the administration.
Matungu Subcounty Director of Education Mrs Josephine Nasambu Walela also thanked the parents for dedicating their time towards the school.
According to Mrs Walela, quality education is very expensive and she asked parents to take part in school development activities so that their sons and daughters can shape their futures positively.
“Enemies of progress are those who don’t support education. We are reminding them that education is the only equalizer as it is only education that will take them places,” she said.
Mrs Walela asked parents to pay fees for their children to keep them in school and they can also do this in kind.
“Amongst you, there are engineers, professors, lawyers, doctors, teachers, governors and Members of Parliament and I want you not to succumb to pressure and respect yourself. You came here alone and you will leave alone, it is how you will leave that will count,” she advised students.
Dr Hedwig Mukhwana, who was the chief guest, challenged students to read themselves out of poverty and develop a habit of reading books.
According to Dr Mukhwana, names are created in schools and it is upon the students to make a name for their parents now.
“Parents, sit with your child before anyone sits with them. Walk with your child before anyone walks with them. You need to come up with a home program for your child as success is accompanied by a program,” advised Dr Mukhwana.
Teachers were also challenged not to make problems that they will live to see in future because if a child fails in life, they will always be seeing themselves in the life of the child.
Renowned Consultant, Daystar University Lecturer and politician Benard Wakoli alias Eshiachi was represented by Mr Robert Opwora, who gave out Ksh35,000 from Hon. Wakoli who promised to visit the school and reason with the Principal on how best he can partner with the school in improving areas of interest.
Hon. Wakoli also bought full school uniforms to ten needy students in the school.
