There was pomp and colour at St. Mary’s Mumias Girls’ High School as the institution officially launched its KCSE 2026 revision programme for the candidate class christened “The Class of Destiny.” The colourful event brought together parents, teachers, students and distinguished guests led by renowned motivational speaker Dr. Njuguna Mwangi.

Addressing the candidates, Dr. Mwangi challenged the learners to aim higher and work towards joining universities to pursue competitive courses. He emphasized that success is not merely about gaining university admission but about the quality of education and skills acquired while there.

He commended the students for their exemplary discipline and reminded them that success is a personal journey that requires focus, determination and independence from negative peer influence.
“Success is an individual venture. Learn to stand out and avoid blindly following the crowd,” he advised.

Dr. Mwangi also called upon parents to support school programmes through timely payment of school fees and by speaking positively about their daughters. He noted that education remains a powerful tool capable of transforming girls into influential women in society.

Drawing lessons from the “Eagle” he encouraged students to develop vision, resilience and the courage to rise above pressure and distractions.

St. Mary’s Senior Principal, Mrs. Monicah Buchichi Nyange, thanked parents for turning up in large numbers and expressed gratitude to God for making the occasion possible.
Quoting Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” Mrs. Buchichi reminded the candidates that success is achieved through perseverance, consistency and hard work.

“Today marks the beginning of an intensive and focused revision programme tailored for your success. The future you desire begins with the decisions you make today,” she said.
The principal revealed that the school will intensify academic preparations through a revised timetable, additional examinations, academic tune-ups and other intervention measures designed to improve performance.

She praised teachers for their dedication and sacrifice, noting that the impact of their work extends beyond examinations and into the future lives of the learners.

Mrs. Buchichi also thanked parents for partnering with the school and urged them to continue guiding and praying for their daughters.
“Success is a shared responsibility. As we launch this rigorous revision programme, let us all commit ourselves to excellence,” she added.
The principal further applauded the candidate class for maintaining an impressive disciplinary record since joining the school in Form One, describing discipline as a key ingredient for academic success.

Director of Studies Mr. James Anyasi thanked parents for attending what he termed a significant event in the school’s academic calendar.

He outlined several strategies the school intends to implement, including more topical tune-ups, joint examinations, mentorship sessions, engagement with subject experts and increased practical lessons in science subjects.
“Our goal is to expose the students to more academic opportunities that will sharpen their skills and prepare them adequately for KCSE,” said Mr. Anyasi.

Candidate representative Chelsea Mwalo expressed confidence that the class would achieve its target Meanscore of 9.276.
“Our teachers have prepared us well through examinations, tests and continuous assessments. We are optimistic about posting excellent results,” she said.

School Captain Elynah Seremi thanked the administration for organizing the event and assured parents that the candidates were determined to exceed expectations.
“We ask parents to believe in us and remain positive. Our teachers are doing an excellent job and together we shall achieve our goals,” she said.

Board of Management Chairperson Mrs. Rosemary Wanaswa urged parents to invest their time, resources and support in their daughters’ education.

She commended Principal Monicah Buchichi for recently being honoured as a “Super Woman” and encouraged students to remain disciplined and receptive to guidance from their teachers.
“Discipline and hard work are the foundations of success,” she noted.

Also speaking during the event, Mr. Henry Muhula thanked parents for their unwavering support and encouraged them to empower their daughters while addressing their individual needs.

St. Mary’s Mumias Girls’ High School is expected to present approximately 507 candidates for the 2026 KCSE examination. The institution continues to build on its strong academic tradition, having emerged as the top-performing school in Kakamega County in the previous KCSE examination with a mean score of 8.1, while more than 398 students attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above.
