In the heart of Mwitoti area, Kakamega County, a football revolution is quietly but powerfully taking shape. Bunge FC, a young but ambitious side competing in the FKF Kakamega County League, is rapidly establishing itself as a dominant force and a beacon of grassroots football development in Western.

Founded in 2023, the club has wasted no time in making an impact. Currently sitting top of the FKF Kakamega county league with 26 points and a game in hand, Bunge FC has emerged as one of the most organized and effective teams in the region—both on and off the pitch.

Driven by Visionary Leadership.

At the center of this success story is the club’s patron, Hamisi Waswa, popularly known as “Don”—a passionate football enthusiast whose commitment to the game has been instrumental in shaping the club’s trajectory.

Speaking about the team, Head Coach Eugene Akwata attributes much of their success to Waswa’s unwavering support:
“We are strong because of the support and input of our Patron. I have never seen someone as passionate about football as Hon. Waswa. His contribution to this team is immense.”

From providing training equipment—20 balls, 100 markers, 65 cones, and 60 beeps—to purchasing boots and jerseys, the patron has ensured that the players have the tools needed to compete at a high level.

Performance Backed by Discipline
Under the technical guidance of Coach Akwata and his assistant Dennis Eshitemi, Bunge FC has delivered impressive results.
In 10 matches played, the team has:
Won 8 matches
Drawn 2 matches
Remained unbeaten
With two matches remaining to conclude the first leg, the team’s consistency and discipline have placed them firmly on course for a strong title push.

A Hub for Local Talent Development
What truly sets Bunge FC apart is its commitment to grassroots development. According to the technical bench, 99.9% of the squad is sourced locally, primarily from the Mwitoti area.
“There is immense talent here. We wanted to nurture our own boys and help them grow into something big,” Coach Akwata explains.

This philosophy is already bearing fruit. Several players have secured trial opportunities with teams like Soy United, signaling a promising pathway from local football to the national stage.

Strategic Exposure and Growth
Through the patron’s efforts, Bunge FC has also gained valuable exposure by organizing friendly matches with top-tier sides, including JOBO and Soy United, both of which compete at higher levels of Kenyan football.
Such matches have not only tested the team’s quality but also elevated its profile across the region.

Community and Institutional Support
Bunge FC’s story is equally one of community collaboration. The team trains at St. Martha’s Mwitoti, a facility made accessible through the goodwill of Principal Mr. Sammy Ogolla.

His support extends beyond training grounds—he has also provided the school bus for away fixtures, significantly easing logistical challenges.
The Mwitoti community has also embraced the team, regularly turning up in numbers to support their local heroes—turning matches into vibrant community events.

A Long-Term Vision for Greatness
For Waswa, Bunge FC is more than just a football club—it is a platform for youth empowerment.
“There are many talented young players who lack opportunities. I chose to invest in this team to give them a stage to showcase their abilities.”
With a structured roadmap in place, the club aims to:

  •  Reach Division One by 2027
  •   Progress to the National Super League
  •     Ultimately compete in the Kenya Premier       League.

To motivate the squad, the patron has introduced match allowances and performance incentives, including a promised celebratory trip should the team finish top of the league.
