Nyang’ori Boys National School in Vihiga County held a colourful Annual General Meeting (AGM) over the weekend, drawing a large gathering of stakeholders, parents, and members of the local community.
The event was marked with pomp and celebration, highlighting the school’s steady progress in both academics and infrastructure. Speakers at the meeting lauded the institution’s impressive upward trajectory under the leadership of Senior Principal Mr. Peter Lunani.
Mr. Lunani emerged as the centre of praise, with stakeholders crediting his leadership for transforming the institution within a remarkably short period—barely two years since he took over the school, which sits at the border of Vihiga, Kisumu, and Nandi counties.

The General Superintendent of Pentecostal Assemblies of God Kenya (PAG-K), Rev. Kenneth Adiara, expressed his admiration for the school’s turnaround. He affirmed the church’s pride in the institution and pledged continued collaboration.

“Nyang’ori is one of our premier schools. We are proud of the progress being made here,” he said.
In support of the school’s development, Mr. Adiara donated two laptops and KSh 50,000.
The Chief Guest, Dr. John Matuya from Maasai Mara University, delivered an insightful address, urging parents to actively support school programmes for the success of their children.
Dr. Matuya emphasized that success is a product of multiple factors:
“Success is directly proportional to students’ hard work, parental support, teachers’ sacrifice, and God’s constant favor.”

He challenged the 2026 candidate class, dubbed “Spartans,” to work harder than previous cohorts in order to achieve their target mean score of 9.28.
He assured parents that their sacrifices would ultimately bear fruit. He further stressed the importance of education, noting that:
“The best investment a parent can make is paying school fees. Academic success opens doors, builds reputation, and secures the future of your children.”
Hamisi Member of Parliament, Dr. Charles Gimose, an alumnus of the school (Class of 1977), also attended the event. He congratulated the 2025 candidates for their commendable performance in the KCSE examinations.
“I am proud that the legacy of this school has been maintained. Education remains the greatest equalizer,” he said, urging students to focus on personal growth and value addition
Dr. Gimose made a personal donation of KSh 50,000 towards student welfare.

Vihiga County Director of Education, Madam Joyce Chesang’, praised the students for showcasing diverse talents and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the school, particularly in the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
She, however, challenged parents to take greater responsibility in supporting the school financially:
“Fee arrears running into millions are affecting service delivery. Many school programmes cannot run effectively without timely payment of fees.”

The Chairperson of the Board of Management, Rev. Patrick Oyondi, echoed similar sentiments, urging parents to closely monitor their sons’ academic progress and support school initiatives.
He also appreciated the school sponsor for deploying a full-time chaplain, noting that the move has significantly improved discipline and moral development among students.
The AGM also recognized academic excellence, with top performers in the 2025 KCSE examinations being rewarded. Four students who scored grade A (plain) were awarded laptops, while those who attained A- (minus) received suitcases.

The event concluded with renewed commitment from all stakeholders to support the school’s growth, with optimism high that Nyang’ori Boys National School is firmly on the path to sustained academic excellence.
