Friends Kaimosi Girls’ Senior School Hosts Colourful Grade 10 Orientation

Friends Kaimosi Girls’ Senior School held a successful and vibrant Grade 10 orientation event attended by teachers, parents, students and key stakeholders in education.

The event sought to familiarise parents with the school’s programmes and the new education framework, while strengthening collaboration between the institution and families as learners transition into senior school.

Guest Speaker Highlights CBE Pathways

The guest speaker, Mr Paul Wanyonyi, a motivational speaker and facilitator of the “Masterclass” programme, guided parents through the pathways under the Competency-Based Education curriculum.

He cautioned parents against compelling their daughters to pursue pathways that do not align with their interests or abilities.

“Let the girls choose what they love and what aligns with their strengths,” he urged.

Mr Wanyonyi addressed common misconceptions surrounding the new curriculum, noting that many of the rumours circulating about it lack factual basis. He explained that the Competency-Based Education model is learner-centred and designed to place students in pathways that best suit their talents, enabling them to realise their full potential.

He also encouraged parents to support school programmes fully and to take time to understand the curriculum framework, including its financial implications.

Principal Emphasises Partnership

The Chief Principal, Mrs Rose Shavisa, thanked parents for choosing Friends Kaimosi Girls’ Senior School and for attending the orientation in large numbers.

She described the exercise as a critical process that lays a strong foundation for collaboration, mutual understanding and academic success. Mrs Shavisa underscored the importance of partnership between the school, students and parents in nurturing discipline, academic excellence and personal growth.

Citing the school’s strong record in both academics and co-curricular activities, she noted that sustained and strengthened collaboration would be key to maintaining and improving performance.

Parents were also guided on how to address emerging concerns constructively. They were advised against rushing to social media platforms and instead encouraged to act as positive ambassadors of the school.

Board and Administration Assure Parents

The Vice Chair of the Board, Mrs Susan Lukano, thanked parents for their impressive turnout and assured them that the Board remains committed to safeguarding the interests of their daughters.

As a proud alumna, she expressed confidence in the school’s capacity to nurture future leaders.

“I am a proud alumna of this great school and have held high offices because of the strong foundation I received here. Let us support it dearly,” she said.

The Deputy Principal in charge of Administration, Mrs Grace Omwakwe, welcomed parents to the Kaimosi community and urged them to play an active parental role by providing all necessary requirements to ensure uninterrupted learning.

Parents were reminded that the school operates academic visiting days only. They were also informed about class WhatsApp groups and cautioned to keep discussions strictly focused on academic matters.

Parents Association Chair Calls for Commitment

The Parents Association Chairperson, Mr Vincent Namai, also welcomed parents and thanked them for entrusting the school with their daughters’ education.

He emphasised that the Grade 10 journey marks a significant stage in shaping both the learners’ futures and the institution’s continued growth.

“Quality education is expensive, but it is worth investing in for the sake of your daughter’s future,” he stated.

Mr Namai encouraged parents to attend academic programmes personally rather than delegating youthful relatives. He stressed the importance of timely payment of fees and appealed for support towards the ongoing Grade 10 tuition block project currently under construction.

The orientation concluded on a high note, with renewed commitment from both parents and the school administration to work together in nurturing disciplined, focused and successful learners.
