St. Martha’s Mwitoti Senior School Rises Under Transformative Leadership of Principal Samuel Ogolla

St. Martha’s Mwitoti Senior School in Mumias East is undergoing a remarkable transformation under the leadership of its newly appointed principal, Mr. Samuel Ogolla, who took office just four months ago.

Known for his disciplined and results-driven approach, Mr. Ogolla has swiftly implemented key reforms to revive the once-prestigious institution.

A Proven Leader at the Helm
Mr. Ogolla brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as Deputy Principal at St. Peter’s High School in Mumias and as the immediate former principal of Shinamwenyuli Secondary in Butere Constituency. His reputation as a firm and effective administrator precedes him, and his impact at Mwitoti is already evident.

Taking over from the retired Mr. Dennis Munyendo, Mr. Ogolla inherited a school grappling with declining discipline, financial mismanagement, and dwindling academic performance. However, within a short span, he has instituted sweeping changes to restore order and excellence.

Key Reforms Driving Change
1. Financial Discipline & Accountability
– Cracked down on wasteful expenditure and tightened school fee management.
– Personally engaged parents with fee arrears, fostering cooperation and improving collections.
– Renegotiated supplier contracts to restore confidence and ensure steady delivery of essential goods.

2. Infrastructure & Learning Environment Upgrades
– Upgraded 16 classrooms with Terrazzo flooring for a conducive learning atmosphere.
– Overhauled the school’s lighting system, addressing long-standing electricity issues.
– Renovated and repainted dormitories, repaired window panes, and improved sleeping conditions.
– Relocated and modernized the school library, dedicating an entire floor to learning resources.
– Established a fully equipped computer lab with new machines, enhancing digital literacy.

3. Academic Revival & Teacher Support
– Set an ambitious target mean score of 7.5 for the 2025 KCSE candidates.
– Welcomed four new teachers from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and hired two additional staff to address shortages.
– Introduced monthly student forums where learners voice concerns, ensuring their needs are met.

Community & Leadership Support
Mr. Ogolla credits the school’s rapid progress to the supportive Board of Management, led by Dr. Vitalis Masakhwe, and the Parents Association, which has contributed to ongoing projects, including the construction of a perimeter wall.

Additionally, Mumias East MP Hon. Peter Salasya has pledged to build modern latrines, a move expected to further improve sanitation.

Challenges Ahead
Despite the progress, the school faces hurdles, including:
– Delayed government capitation affecting operations.
– Low fee compliance due to economic hardships among parents.
– Severe water shortages, a critical issue for the over 1,200 students.

A Bright Future Ahead
With a determined candidate class of 423 students, upgraded facilities, and strong leadership, St. Martha’s Mwitoti is on a steadfast path to reclaiming its former glory. As Mr. Ogolla aptly puts it:

“Our mission is clear—to restore academic excellence and make this school a beacon of success once again.”

The community watches with optimism as St. Martha’s Mwitoti Senior School strides confidently toward a brighter future.
