Joy as Dr Benard Wesonga is appointed Health CEC in Kakamega

He has worked extensively in the Health sector and has full grasp of the issues that residents want addressed.

Celebrations rendered the air in Eshikhondi Village following the appointment of Dr Benard Wesonga as the new County Executive Committee Member ( CEC ) for Health in Governor Fernandes Barasa’s administration.

While announcing his team in the afternoon, Governor Barasa surprised many of the residents by announcing a renown Neurosurgeon from Eshikhondi as the CEC for health.

Speaking to Morning Mail, residents who were elated thanked the Governor for appointment of Dr Benard and noted he has been the missing link needed to revamp the ailing health sector in county.

“We understand our hospitals in Matungu have had historical issues of inadequate drugs, poor services from health care workers, poor hygiene in hospital wards among others and it is our hope that the incoming Minster will put some sanity in the ailing health sector,” pointed Mzee Francis.

Dr.Benard is best suited for the job considering his credentials that are unmatched and speak volumes.

Governor Barasa’s appointees will give him an easy time considering their career background, as pointed by the residents’ reactions following the release of the names.

“A few years ago, Eshikhondi was a dark village with no life but we are glad that a lot of transformation continue to be witnessed in recent times,” Mama Janet said.

She added, “We urge parents to embrace education and consider taking education of their children very seriously and they will make the village proud just like the whole village is proud of Dr Wesonga, who has been appointed the CEC for health in Kakamega.”

Among those who were appointed by Governor Barasa to serve in different dockets are Deputy Governor Ayub Savula among others.

The appointees will be vetted before assuming office.

Dr Bernard Wesonga is an Omukolwe born in Eshikhondi village.

He started his nursery education at Eshikhondi primary School, did CPE at Ngairwe Primary School and his O Levels at Namulungu Secondary School.

HE then proceeded to have his A Levels at St Patrick High School in Iten and then went to study Medicine at the University of Nairobi.

His ancestral home is just next to Eshikhondi primary school.

He worked extensively and for many years with Amref and he is currently a lecturer at Masinde Muliro University School of Health Sciences.

  1. Good to hear Koyonzo has got a new principal. We pray he will be a focused professional who will steer the school to great achievement realizing genuine results. I advise old boys and girls of the school to unite and form a strong alumnae the can support development of the school. Did I read that Oliver Minishi put Koyonzo in the top 100 nationally!!! I disagree. Check the results of 2002 and what position the school was placed nationally. We have to write the correct history. Stay blessed.
