As a wave of student unrest recently swept across several secondary schools in Kenya, St. Mary’s Mumias Girls High School demonstrated remarkable maturity, discipline and commitment to academic excellence by choosing a different path.

Under the visionary leadership of Chief Principal Mrs. Monicah Nyange, the students refused to succumb to peer pressure and remained steadfast in their pursuit of education. Rather than engaging in unrest, the girls embraced dialogue and held mature conversations with the school administration, reaffirming their commitment to the values that have made the institution a center of excellence.
The strong bond between the administration and learners has played a significant role in fostering a peaceful learning environment. Chief Principal Mrs. Monicah Nyange and her Deputy Principal, Mrs. Brenda Wandera, have gone the extra mile by spending time in the dormitories with students, providing guidance, mentorship and parental support. This unique approach has nurtured trust, confidence and open communication within the school community.

Recently recognized as a Super Woman in the Republic for her outstanding contribution to education and leadership, Mrs. Nyange continues to inspire learners to aim higher and remain focused on their dreams. The students, in turn, have resolved not to disappoint their celebrated principal, choosing instead to uphold the school’s proud traditions of discipline and academic excellence.

With high self-esteem, clear goals and a deep understanding of the purpose of education, the girls remain focused on achieving outstanding academic results. Drawing strength from the school’s rich history of impressive performance, they continue to demonstrate resilience, responsibility and determination.
Today, St. Mary’s Mumias Girls High School remains an epitome of quality education in the Western region, where academics remain at the center stage and character development is equally prioritized.

Long live Chief Principal Mrs. Monicah Nyange. Long live St. Mary’s Mumias Girls High School.
