Shamberere National Polytechnic marked a historic milestone as it awarded diplomas, certificates, and trade test certifications to 1,700 graduates in a vibrant ceremony presided over by Dr. Esthe Thaara Muoria, the Permanent Secretary for the State Department for Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET), alongside other distinguished guests.
Dr. Muoria commended the graduates for their determination, resilience, and commitment, which led to this proud achievement.
“Today’s ceremony is the institution’s first graduation since attaining national polytechnic status, a testament to its growing role in shaping Kenya’s skilled workforce,” she said.

She praised the institution’s management and staff for their visionary leadership and dedication to equipping youth with practical skills.
“I am impressed by the institution’s enrollment growth and its adoption of technology to enhance hands-on learning and income-generating initiatives. This demonstrates sustainability, innovation, and progress in action,” she noted.
Dr. Muoria emphasised the transformative power of TVET in uplifting communities and revitalising Kenya’s industrial workforce.
“TVET has become a catalyst for change, equipping youth with market-aligned skills, fostering innovation, and opening pathways to decent employment and entrepreneurship,” she said.
She challenged the graduates to leverage their skills with confidence, urging them to become innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders in driving Kenya’s development agenda.

Leadership Applauds Growth and Achievements
Eng. Musa Osieko Kulubi, the Council Chairperson, thanked Dr. Muoria for gracing the occasion and congratulated the graduates for their hard work.
“We have prepared you not just for employment but for leadership in your fields. Whether you pursue further studies, enter the workforce, or start businesses, carry Shamberere’s values of excellence, integrity, and teamwork,” he said.
He also expressed gratitude to parents, guardians, and sponsors for their trust in the institution, as well as to Chief Principal Dr. Elisha Nyamu and the staff for their dedication.

Highlighting the institution’s growth since attaining national status, Eng. Kulubi outlined key developments, including:
– Construction of a five-classroom tuition block.
– Conversion of a modern store into a Building & Civil Engineering workshop and cosmetology studio.
– Acquisition of 3.9 acres for expansion.
– Enhanced financial sustainability through income-generating projects.
– Receipt of 100 computers for the Jitume digital jobs program.
He also acknowledged the government’s pledge to build a 1,200-capacity hostel to address accommodation challenges.
Quality Assurance and Future Plans
Dr. Stanley Kiptis, Chairperson of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA), commended the institution for meeting quality standards.
“After thorough assessment, I confirm that Shamberere National Polytechnic offers accredited, high-quality courses,” he stated.
Dr. Elisha Nyamu, the Chief Principal, thanked the government for its support in staffing, funding, and student enrollment initiatives.
“As a key implementer of TVET policies, we take pride in our national status and expanded responsibilities,” he said.

He announced upcoming initiatives, including:
– A trainer assessment in November.
– The rollout of an AI-powered assessment tool (Smart Doc 360) for generating and grading exams.
– Full alignment of courses with Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET).
– Partnerships with GIZ to dual-train students in Food & Beverage, Mechanical Engineering, and Building & Civil Engineering.
– Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) programs to certify informally skilled individuals.
