St. Paul’s Lugari High School in Lugari Subcounty, Kakamega County posted impressive results in the just released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations by sending 29 candidates to the university up from 13 in the previous year.

The school recorded a mean of 5.512 with top students Clinton Oduor and Peter Wekesa scoring a B+ (plus).

Success has been possible through the joint efforts of the stakeholders, who have enabled a smooth working and learning environment for both teachers and students.

Students celebrate with the Principal.

School Principal Mr Pitia Rombosia has noted that his administration worked closely with teachers and parents to ensure that learners are accorded maximum support to concentrate on their studies.

” We have teachers working as a team to help learners with their studies. Our teachers always avail themselves of consultations in challenging areas even after working hours,” said Mr Rombosia.

He added, “We understand that you cannot realise production in a hostile environment, so we had to focus on improving the learning environment for the boys. This has really worked and it is going to work for us again this year.”

Mr Rombosia avers that the local community around the school has always worked closely with the school administration and this has enabled them to address several issues that arise to stabilise the academic performance.

Hon. Nabii Nabwera, Lugari Member of Parliament has also been a key support system to the school as he has the interest of the school at heart.

Through the bursaries that needy students receive from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF), many needy students have been kept in school.

“In my formative years, I was a teacher at the prestigious Friends School Kamusinga and I know what it means if you have to realise quality results,” the Principal said.

To maintain the impressive performance, Mwalimu promises to ride on the measures that the school employed last year and even do more than they did.

Among the measures they are going to employ are: early syllabus coverage, teamwork, exposure to more external and internal exams, motivating the teaching staff and improving the learning environment.

“As the school motto goes, Expanded Mind and Fight for a Quality Finish, we are not going to gamble with performance going forward,” he said.
