St. Vincent Butende in Mumias West Subcounty has upset many academic giants in Kakamega County by posting impressive results in the just released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

This is thanks to the workable measures put in place by the hardworking Principal Mr Benson Musasia.

Butende – the fastest growing school in the Western part of the country – had two of its KCSE candidates scoring an A- (minus) grade that has been elusive for the past eight years.

Benedict Oduor Odongo and Charles Owino Omondi scored an A- (minus) grade of 75 and 74 points respectively.

Speaking to this writer, the A stars thanked their super Principal Mr Musasia and their teachers for unwavering support and guidance that has made them post impressive performances.

“We used to come to school even on Sunday, spend long hours in class, and more exposure to external and internal exams is what has seen us this far. I will forever be grateful to the teachers of this great school,” said Benedict Oduor Odongo.

Mr Benson Musasia, the school Principal avers that the impressive performance reflects great teamwork, a supportive Board of Management, early syllabus coverage, much exposure to internal and external exams, discipline and above all the belief in the Supreme Being who is God.

“When I joined Butende Secondary School, I had a session with all the stakeholders and we put up measures aimed at improving the academic standards of the school. I am just glad that we have gradually been implementing those measures and that is why we have been able to send over 20 students to the university,” Mr Musasia said.

Asked about plans for the school, Mr Musasia said he has a history of posting impressive performances in exams and he is going to ride on the same measures that he employed to have the 2025 class impress more.

The Principal also highlighted the challenges that are dearly affecting the institution among them fee payments from the parents who are economically incapacitated and a shortage of teachers which is affecting them dearly.

“Otherwise, I am grateful to the two gentlemen, Charles and Benedict for putting the name of the school in the limelight,” he said.
