The leading St Peters Boys Mumias High School is set to hold its annual English contest on 9th March 2023.

English is a key subject in national exams and a determinant subject in career placement.

Chief Principal Chrispinus Owino said this will be a key point in the school’s calendar for the students to showcase abilities by competing with others from across the region.

According to the School Head of the Department of Languages, Mr Charles Mombo, the school has a history of posting impressive performances in languages (English, Kiswahili and French) and it is through such arrangements that students learn much and even boost their scores in national exams.

“Communication is the centre of everything. We train our boys on how to be effective communicators and we want great men who can articulate issues effectively,” said Mr Mombo.

He added, “The contest will bring together reputable schools across the country and we hope to have boys and even our guest students will be able to learn and improve on areas of weakness.”

Students are likely to sit for a contest exam, have group discussions and presentations, debating contests, and career presentations from leading universities and tertiary institutions.

Students will be taken through the importance of English in career pursuits.

Every participant will be awarded a certificate.
