Matungu politics is slowly taking shape as several new politicians salivate for Matungu Parliamentary seat to oust the incumbent Peter Nabulindo.
Among those eying the seat includes Bonface Osanga, Benard Wakoli, Fred Lutta, Geoffrey Okara, Mark Lugwisa and Paul Achayo.
BENARD WAKOLI alias “ESHIACHI”
Benard Wakoli alias ESHIACHI is not new in Matungu politics having contested in the 2021 by-election.
The youthful political commentator gave Nabulindo and David Were then of ODM a run for their money after mounting a serious campaign as an independent candidate that saw him make a name for himself.
The soft spoken Wakoli hails from the populous Namamali ward and comes from the populous Abamurono clan, something that gives him a good head-start.
Super financial muscles and being in good books with powers that be also advantages him above the rest.
Pundits avers that Wakoli is very smart, never engages in confrontational politics unlike what is being witnessed around which makes him the best alternative for the Matungu.
Having been the youth leader of one of the oldest parties in the country for very many years, Eshiachi learnt so much on matters politics and knows the right button to press.
According to former Mayoni MCA, Libinus Oduor, Wakili has done so much for Matungu.
“He always responds promptly to issues affecting his people, enlisted so many needy cases to his program and a lot continues to happen around him,” he says.
It is only Wakoli who has put in place a formidable technocrat to help him push his agenda to the electorates something that has made him call shots even before the serious campaigns sets in.
BONFACE OSANGA
The third time Khalaba MCA is also one of the top contenders in Matungu politics.
Osanga started has been criss-crossing the constituency, attending funerals and popularising his 2027.
Last year, Osanga organized a successful football tournament across the constituency that attracted several teams and awarded hefty packages in awards.
Osanga has been banking on the youthful factor and he is commonly associated to the youths same to Eshiachi.
However, clan factor may also come to play as he comes from the same clan with Governor Fernandez Barasa.
FRED LUTTA
The soft spoken Lutta is a renowned political operative in Matungu politics.
He was the power behind the late Justus Murunga and Nabulindo before falling out.
According to local political analysts from Matungu, Fred is a force that can’t be wished away. He knows the right button to press and his strong financial muscles will give him an advantage too.
The KERRA contractor is said to have amassed so much from the contracts he does across the region and his opponents should not underrate him.
According to Mr Dan Mumia from Matungu, Fred knows the secrets Murunga and Nabulindo used to use to win seats and he is likely to employ the same to win Matungu seat.
WAKILI GEOFFREY OKARA
The Eldoret-based lawyer is not new in Matungu politics as he contested in Matungu March 2021 by-election and lost in primaries to Alex Lanya.
Okara is accredited with super performance of St Teresas’ Itete Secondary where he serves as the board chairperson.
An alumnus of Koyonzo Secondary, Okara’s passion for education is unmatched as he has invested so much in schools that he has interest in among them Koyonzo girls, St Gabriel Mirere, St Teresa Itete and Marinda Primary.
According to Hellen Opwora, a parent at St Itete, her daughter is a beneficiary of Okara and always proud of him.
MARK LUGWISA
His name has also popped up as one of the candidates salivating for Matungu seat though much is not known about him but it is said that he works at the National Treasury.
PETER MUKHONGO
The flamboyant Peter hails from Mirere and is not new in Matungu politics.
Peter has always been showing interest to join Matungu politics but initially never reached the ballot but he has assured his team that in 2027, he is going to be a force to reckon with.
He is currently building a multimillion home at his Mirere home as he plans to make a stab at Matungu politics.
A bosom buddy to COTU (K) Secretary General Francis Atwoli and President William Ruto, Peter is a serious businessman and his financial muscles is what gives him an advantage.
PAUL AGUTU ACHAYO alias Fipangaria
He is a renowned politician and one of the smartest owing to his past performance in Matungu politics.
He was the ODM candidate in 2017 and has always been on the ballot in every election since 2013.
Though much has not been heard about him regarding 2027, he has a ground as some of his loyalist like Ochango from Bunanziri and Abdi from Matungu are still there.
