The second edition of Wakili Robert Ojou Super Cup Tournament is set to kick off on 4th November 2023.

The renowned Nakuru-based lawyer has this time expanded the tournament to cover two wards of Matungu subcounty following the pressure from sports fanatics from the neighbouring ward.

“I am a sports fanatic and as a native son of the soil, I have capitalised on the long holiday the students are going to be at home to keep them busy with sports so as to curb several vices like crime and drug abuse and also nurture talents,” Mr Ojou said.

He added, “Schools are closing soon, the number of idle youths across the country is going to be big and I chose to think differently on how we can keep our youths busy and came to a conclusion that it is only sports that can make them busy especially during long holidays.”

He noted that he started with Namamali Ward in the first edition and it was a success and he promised to make it bigger and better in the subsequent editions and this time round, he has resolved to do exactly as promised.

Speaking to this writer, Wakili said that he will contemplate doing tournaments in the long-run just to accommodate more teams.

With the expanded teams that will be participating, Wakili has also increased the prizes to be won as compared to the previous edition and this time round, the first four teams will be awarded as follows:

  • No.1: Trophy, uniform, ball and cash,
  • No.2: Uniform, ball and cash.
  • No.3: Ball and cash.
  • No: 4: Ball and cash.

A total of over Ksh75,000 will be competed against.

He said in the first edition, he learnt so much and a lot has been improved from the lessons learnt.

According to Mwalimu Drogba and Phanuel Opemi who are among the coordinators of the tournament, it is expected to be so exciting owing to the number of participating teams and also the organisation that has been put in place.

“This is going to be a great tournament in Matungu given that the Governor’s Cup is already exiting the sub county and Cleo Malala Super Cup is also out, so it’s only Robert Ojou Super Cup that we expect to thrill the fans in the lower side of Kakamega,” Mwalimu Drogba said.

Mirere FC and Ngairwe FC will curtain raise the tournament on 4th November at Lunganyiro primary.

The finals will be staged on 26th December at Lunganyiro primary.
