Leaders drawn from Western Region and specifically Busia County have raised concern and condemned the indecent act meted on a minor aged 14 years by a renowned Member of County Assembly who is supposed to protect the interests of the girl-child.

Mama Mary Makokha, the founder and director of a life changing organisation (REEP – Rural Education and Economic Empowerment Programme) appealed to the judicial arm of the government headed by Madam CJ Martha Koome to do everything humanely possible to let justice be served.

“Busia has so many beautiful and God-fearing women and we don’t see the need of an elected legislator to be taking advantage of our school going children,” she said.

She added, “The roles of an MCA are clearly outlined which includes representation, oversight, and legislation. Who is going to protect and legislate on matters legislation in the County Assembly if the leaders we have put in the office are the ones preying on our girls.”

She noted whatever the Bunyala West MCA did was uncalled for and they want the law to take its course so that he can serve as a lesson to the rest.

It has been noted that there are plans to manipulate the case but as a senior stakeholder in matters girl-child protection, they are going to push it to the end.
