Wakili Ken Echesa Walubengu is the next big thing in Luhya land.

The youthful lawyer from Khabondi Village in Mumias East is a self-made public figure and the next big thing in the region.

Wakili, as commonly known, began his career as a teacher of English and Literature at the prestigious St Peters Mumias High School before upgrading his studies to Law.

As they say, your vibe attracts your tribe, Ken is a bossom buddy of several senior politicians in the region among them Wycliffe Oparanya, Eugene Wamalwa, Noah Wekesa, Wilber Ottichillo among many other senior politicians.

Ken is well versed with matters education and has been on several platforms championing for the rights of education, he has represented several students in cases pitting them against school administrations among other factors that can compromise education.

Despite his youthful stature, Ken is a household name and a proud partner in Wamalwa and Echesa Company Advocates.

“Education is the only equaliser that I know. I went through St Peters High School, then Masinde Muliro University in Kakamega for my undergraduate studies but because I was more interested in serving my people in a different class, I chose to enroll for a Bachelor in Law at the University of Nairobi so that I can be able to fight for the rights of my people,” he says.

He adds, “I grew up seeing people denied justice and exploited and it really pained me. I told myself that one day I will stand for the rights of my people and glory be to God, I am a constitutional lawyer and I always champion for the rights of the people.”

Hardly a few years into the legal field, Ken has been able to impact positively in his community by supporting the vulnerable and the church.

Through him, several places of worship have had a structural facelift and more continues to be done.

Over the weekend, together with his friends, he donated roofing materials worth over Ksh420,000 to ACK Chebuyusi.

Pundits aver that, owing to his humility and interests that he has for his people, the guy will go far.

“Ken is a young man whom we have seen grow and as a community we are proud of him. We wish well and we believe God to reward him when times come,” a resident said.

The soft spoken guy has become a darling of many owing to his brilliance and understanding on matters law.

He recently represented Governor Emeritus Wycliffe Oparanya when he was arrested last week for leading protests in western region. He vehemently condemned the police for arresting Oparanya and detaining his car.

Wakili Echesa has also been hailed for speaking against creation of the office of spouse of the Governor terming it unconstitutional.

Ken was quoted saying that Kakamega County is grappling with a myriad challenges in the health sector and allowing creation of the office of the spouse of the Governor will be a waste of resources.

He noted that roles of the spouse of the Governor compliments that of the Governor and it will be a waste of tax payers’ money.

“When we condemned creation of the office of the spouse of the Governor, goons were sent to smash my car and seriously smashed for speaking about this contentious issue.

I am not going to be cowed. I am a constitutional lawyer and anything that violates the rights of the people, I must speak about.

If we allow Kakamega to create that illegal office, it means other 46 counties will follow suit and create the same. At the end, it is taxpayers who feel the burden.”

He asked the current administration to fix the mess being seen in the department of health and deliver on the promises they made to the people and that way, they will never have issues with them.
