An 80 year-old woman in Angorom village in Teso South of Busia County, was forced to spent the night in the cold after her son allegedly threw her out of her matrimonial home.
Laurencia Kwena says that her son Dr. Kizito Kwena who is a senior officer attached to KALRO Katumani research center in Machakos County, ordered his caretaker to lock the gate and not to allow her in.
“My son has been asking me to leave the home claiming that I am not taking good care of his cows. I wonder why he thinks that this is his home yet his late father gave him his share in 2004 before he died. There are minutes showing that his land is in Sikoma in Butula Constituency in Busia County,” she said.
When contacted on phone, Dr. Kwena denied having ordered his caretaker to lock his mother out but he was quick to claim that the piece of land was his and that it was just a matter of time before he makes a decision on whether to throw his mother out or not.
According to a land search seen by Morning Mail, the piece of land in question still reads Maurice Kwena as the bona-fide owner and not Dr. Kizito Musundi Kwena.
Asked why he had not transferred the land to his name twelve years down the line since his father died in 2011, Dr. Kwena said that he was now determined to change the ownership so that he can take full control of the land.
A neighbour we spoke to and who did not want his name to be mentioned, said: “the late Maurice Kwena and his wife Laurencia bought this land in 1987 and they have been staying here peacefully for all those years. Mzee Kwena had two sons with Laurencia so for Dr. Kwena alone to claim that Mzee gave him the Angorom land is suspect. I think he wants to grab her mother’s land just because its Prime.”
Laurencia now wants the Government to intervene and save her from her son she says has gone rogue.
“He has even constructed a big house that has taken almost the entire piece of land hence I don’t have anywhere left to plant anything for food”.
