Solomon Sisuma from Otieno Oyoo High School in Kisumu County is the new Principal of Koyonzo Boys High School in Matungu Sub County, Kakamega County.
He replaces Boaz Adit whom he has swapped position with.
Mr Adit has been the principal of Koyonzo Boys for close to four years and during his tenure, the former academic power house in the region did not impress academically, something that made him have frosty relationships with other key stakeholders including alumnae associations.
Koyonzo used to be a powerhouse during the reign of Oliver Minishi and Sammy Kubai Sitima but academics trend took a paradigm shift from positive deviations to negative deviations when Adit took over a few years ago.
Speaking to this writer, Koyonzo Old Students Association chairperson, Mr Joseph Mulama warmly welcomed the principal to the school.
“Change is as good as rest and on behalf of former students, we appreciate and welcome Mr Solomon Sisuma to this great school. Koyonzo has a history of posting impressive results save for a few years that didn’t impress us,” he said.
According to Mulama, 90 percent of professionals in Matungu and the surrounding areas are products of this mighty school.
“Most teachers, medics, writers, business people we meet around went through this school and we would like it to get back to where it belongs,” he said.
He further noted they understand that results cannot be realised in a hostile environment and asked the new principal to settle down as fast as possible and put the school in order.
However, he said the community wants results earliest possible and nothing else.
“The previous administrator has been running the institution as a private property and we wouldn’t want that from Mr Sisuma. As Alumnae Association, it will be prudent if a slot or two will be allocated to us in the BOM so that our voice as former students is heard.
Otherwise, we are optimistic we are going to have a transformed school,” said Mulama.
Fransiscah Tracy Wamukoya, also a former student, has had kind words for Mr Sisuma.
Francisca termed Sisuma as a result oriented person and she’s optimistic that the school is in safe hands.
“The principal was once at Nambale Boys before he went to Otieno Oyoo and we are glad that he has come to manage our school that we love dearly. I ask the stakeholders to cooperate with the new Principal so as to enable the school get back on the national map,” she said.
Fransiscah avers that Mr Sisuma should enforce discipline, work on the relationship between the school and the community, involve stakeholders in the affairs of the school, among other key issues.
She added, “Talents are realised in schools. The school was a powerhouse in drama among other key co-curricular activities. We urge the principal to embrace sports as they have changed lives of many former students. Otherwise, we are going to support him dearly.”
Teachers who spoke to this writer on condition of anonymity were in high spirits following the transfer of Mr Adit.
“It is like we were in prison. Anyway, we wish him well,” the teacher said.
Oliver Minishi put Koyonzo School on the national map after the school made it to top 100 schools in Kenya.
We wish Mr Solomon Sisuma well as he settles at Koyonzo Boys High School.
We wish Mr Sisuma all the best. Let us support him fully so that he can take back Koyonzo where it was during Minish’s and Sitima’s time.
