The Principal Luhya Elder Dr Francis Atwoli NOM (DZA), has asked the Luhya community to support the Administration of President William Ruto fully.

Dr Atwoli rallied the community behind Raila Odinga in the last General Elections that were hotly contested pitting H.E Excellency William Ruto and the Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga.

“I did everything humanely possible to see to it that Raila Odinga became the president of this country in the last General Elections. We had the support of the State and everything in the country but still William Ruto won against us.
It still baffles me how we lost,” he says.

He noted it is now time to build the country and beseeched the former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to accept that they lost.

Atwoli is a household name in Kenya and around the globe going by the positions that he hold in various labour movements.

Recently Ruto appointed him to the National Labour Board as a member for a period of three years.

He is also President of Organization of African Trade Union Unity ( OATUU), and Vice President of the International Trade Union Confederation and a member of International Labour Organisation; besides being the Secretary General of the prestigious Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) in Kenya.

Speaking recently, Atwoli reiterated that the Luhya community stands to benefit a lot from the government of William Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua as they have Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Masika Wetang’ula, Cleophas Malala among others who should champion the interests of the community.

“Let us not gamble with time and align ourselves with what we have for the betterment of the community. We can’t keep on wailing in streets. We want development and we should support Ruto for us to realise better services,” he says.

Pundits aver that Luhyas have numerical strength and have able leaders who should be supported.

“All is not lost because we are number three in government and we only want people like Atwoli to work closely with Musalia, Wetangula, Malala among other leaders to see to it that Luhyas become united for better, going forward. United we stand, divided we fall,” Hamisi, a political analyst in Mumias said.

Atwoli said there are things that happen and they become permanently irriversible.

“The earlier we accept the better. We had the powerful Matiang’i, Karanja Kibicho, the Inspector General and many others but we lost,” he said.

Atwoli termed Ruto as intelligent, smart and can move so fast and measures being put up by the Azimio to get him out of office is an exercise in futility and unimaginable.

“The earlier we accept that Ruto is the President the better and it will be a tall order to oust him now that he is in charge.

I want the Mulembe Nation to rally behind His Excellency the President as they stand to benefit more than gasping for hot air,” he said.
