Booker Academy Primary Section has continued to post exemplary results every year, churning out hundreds of competent individuals joining the other institutions to further their education.

It is arguably one of the most recognised academic powerhouses in the country.

In the just released Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE), the top candidate at the school, Omenge Blevins Onyancha, scored 421 marks out of a possible 500 with 10 others getting over 400 marks. The school had a mean score of 366.

The lowest marks to be recorded was 286, meaning that all the candidates were above average.

Speaking to the press, Mr Tom Omuhaka, the school Headteacher attributed the positive results to sheer hard work, dedication and discipline.

“We have a history of posting impressive results over the years and each year, we expect good results from our learners This year was not an exception,” Mr Omuhaka says.

He noted early syllabus coverage, teamwork and a dedicated staff are very key in any institution, if they have to post good results.

“Our teachers are a motivated lot and we clear our syllabus in time to enable our candidates have an ample time for revision of the exams. This has helped us over the years,” he says.

He noted in a hostile environment, one cannot post impressive results and the administration of Booker Academy knows this pretty well and gives a lot of attention to learners.

Issues affecting learners are addressed immediately as teachers and learners meet after each fortnight where issues affecting them are discussed and a solution is sought.

“Guiding and counseling sessions are very essential to learners especially the teenagers and the school has a resident chaplain and teacher counsellor who guides learners,” he says.

He adds, “This has slowed down indicipine cases as learners know their aim of being at the school.”

Booker Academy was established in 1985 and it is sponsored by Mumias Sugar Company and run by Elimu Trust.

It has both boarding and day schooling sections with flexible fees.

The school has nurtured a number of key professionals who are scattered across the globe.

In 2012, the school produced the best candidate in Kenya in KCPE, Onyango A. Catriona, who scored 454 marks.

The school has an elaborate program that is geared towards giving out the best to learners as envisaged in the school motto: Education for Life.

On co-curricular, the school gives emphasis to sports’ disciplines and a number of sports and games are practiced including drama, netball, badminton, chess, rugby among others.

“We are the second runners up of chess in the country and currently we are constructing a swimming pool in the school to enable our learners to take swimming lessons,” the headteacher says.

The school entrance

With introduction of CBC, the school has been able to identify a number of talents from the learners and aims at nurturing them.

According to Mr John Mark Wandera, the Principal of Booker Academy Secondary section, Booker Academy is still going to be the powerhouse both in academics and co~curricular.

“We have senior sports personel across the world who are our products from Booker Academy,” he says.

The school was picked to pilot the new curriculum, Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).

“We are proud that our learners can cook, grow and keep animals, effectively do writing activities, knitting among many others,” Mr Wandera says.

Mr Wandera reiterated that there are limited chances remaining for January intake and requested the general public to consider taking their children to Booker, where they won’t be disappointed.
