Sports enthusiasts from Namamali Ward of Matungu sub~county have every reason to smile following the launch of Robert Ojou Challenge Cup that is slated to start on Sunday at Lunganyiro Primary School.
As a football fanatic, Wakili Ojou has capitalized on the long school holiday to keep minds of the youth very busy by engaging them in sporting activities so as to curb idleness.
“I was born and raised in this locality, and I’m well versed with dynamics of life facing my brothers and sisters. If we don’t keep our youths engaged especially during this holiday, cases of drug abuse, indiscipline, immorality, theft among others will definitely go up,” Mr Ojou said.
According to Mwalimu Drogba, a key football stakeholder in Matungu, sports has several positive effects in the lives of the youths as it teaches them team work and problem solving skills, boosts self esteem, reduces pressure and stress.
“We encourage our youths to embrace sports for their own good,” he said.
Robert Ojou Challenge Cup brings together a total of 8 teams, with every sub-location giving two teams to compete for trophy and awards.
All games will start at quarterfinals levels and Namamali sub locations will square out i.e Mashinani vs Namamali.
The venue for the tournaments remains Mirere and Munami, with finals slated to take place at Lung’anyiro Primary on 26th of December at 2pm.
All the teams that will participate will be awarded with prizes from Wakili Robert Ojou who is the tournament sponsor.
Robert Ojou has been hailed for having interests for the youth at heart and have asked him to consider making it bigger and better in the long run so as to give youths from across the sub-county a chance to showcase and also nurture their talents.
